CO-PROMOTER Danny Ford confirmed Pirates have picked Ipswich as their SGB Premiership play-off opposition after topping the table at King’s Lynn tonight.

A spirited display at the Adrian Flux Arena saw the defending champions emerge 51-39 winners over a patched-up Stars outfit.

Brady Kurtz (11) and Jack Holder (10) both recorded double figures as Poole leapfrogged Swindon in their final regulation league fixture.

Victory gave Pirates the choice of opposition and they opted to face the Witches, who they beat 51-39 at Wimborne Road earlier this week.

Ipswich will once again visit Poole on Monday, before the sides contest the second leg of their play-off on Thursday at Foxhall.

The second semi-final will pit Swindon against Wolverhampton with those meetings set to be held on September 30 and October 3.

The grand final of the Premiership will be take place on October 7 and 10.

Ford told the Daily Echo: “It was a tough decision. All teams have earned their place in the play-offs but after speaking to the riders, it was a team decision and we have decided to pick Ipswich.

“Ipswich will come to us first and then we will be heading there on Thursday.

“We analysed what our results had been against each of the other competitors and Ipswich just seemed to make the most sense. We have had a couple of great results there already this season.

“It just seemed to be the one all the boys were comfortable to go to and felt they could produce a good result.”

He added: “We really seemed to have picked up some momentum and seem to be on a bit of a winning streak. The fact we can go straight into these play-offs on Monday, hopefully we can keep it going.”

Asked about the last-four clash between Swindon and Wolves, Ford replied: “That’s an outstanding semi-final between those two teams.

“They are very in-form teams and they will give each other a hell of a battle. We will be watching on eagerly.”
