DORSET star Georgia Hall began her 2019 Solheim Cup campaign in emphatic fashion, earning a point in the morning foursomes.

The 23-year-old partnered French rookie Celine Boutier to a 2&1 victory over Lexi Thompson and Brittany Altomare at Gleneagles.

Having fallen one down to the American duo after just three holes at the Scottish venue, the European pair roared back with two birdies helping them reach the turn two up.

They then picked up another shot at the short 10th to increase to three their advantage before remarkable a bogey five at the par-four 12th beat the Americans’ six.

Thompson and Altomare did record birdies at holes 14 and 16 to put the pressure on the European duo.

But Hall and Boutier held their nerve to earn the spoils on the 17th and help Europe into a 2½-1½ lead after the morning session.

Hall told Sky Sports: “We played really well, and I'm happy to get that first point."

The former Canford Kid has not been selected to feature in this afternoon’s fourballs.
