POOLE Comets pulled off a successful double with the club’s youngsters winning the 2019 British Under 12’s club championship and the senior side going top of the league standings.

The under-12 side won the national crown in convincing style, sealing the title by five points after a battle with Kesgrave.

Kenzie Bennett led the way with a superb four-ride maximum, backed up by a 15-point return from Ollie Saunders and 14 from Daisy Sherwood.

Newly-crowned British girls under-12 champion Lexi Curtis finished with 10.

Comets started in fine style winning and looked to be heading for an easy success.

But East Anglian opponents Kesgrave had other ideas and put up a hard fight with only four points separating the two sides for most of the match.

Kesgrave even managed to narrow the gap to a single point after 14 races but Saunders and Bennett held their nerve to win the last two heats and give Poole the title.

Poole’s senior side extended their unbeaten home league run with a stylish 140-108 win over Horspath to go to the top of the pile.

With 2019 world champion Ben Mould sidelined by injury, Poole looked to have a tough match on their hands.

But they easily overcame the Oxford side thanks to some great riding from Aaron Smith and Fraser Garnett.

Team manager Colin Sutton said: “It was particularly pleasing to see Fraser Garnett back to top form with four race wins from his five starts.

“And It was also great to see the squad make the most of these opportunities to ensure the two league points and maintain our unbeaten home record.”
