POOLE talent Leo McCrea today is set to compete as the youngest male athlete at the World Para-Swimming Championship in London.

The 15-year-old has been preparing for a busy week in five events representing Switzerland.

McCrea claimed a host of medals in recent years and he holds aspirations of competing at the Paralympics.

Last week he completed a pre-competition training camp in Switzerland before travelling to London over the weekend.

He has qualified for the S6 category 50m, 100m and 400m freestyle, 200m individual medley and 100m breaststroke.

The Bournemouth Collegiate School pupil is set to begin his charge in the opening race of the championship tomorrow morning at 10am.

McCrea, who was born with Achondroplasia, a bone growth disorder, last year had been invited to take up a position in Team GB’s Podium Potential Squad to target a Paralympic medal in 2024.

However, the Swiss National Paralympic Team gave him an earlier opportunity to compete at the highest level, including this week’s event.

He holds a world ranking of 10 in 400m freestyle, 11 in 100m freestyle and 12 in 100m breaststroke.
