CAPTAIN Chris Park insisted Bournemouth could be “proud of their efforts” in sealing Southern Premier League safety this campaign.

Promoted to the top flight as champions last summer, Lions go into Saturday’s season-closer at Alton (12.30pm) looking for their sixth win in 17 completed games.

And with Basingstoke & North Hants rooted to the bottom of the pile, the skipper was pleased to have safety already secured.

He told the Daily Echo: “Staying in the Southern Premier League was our challenge and we have done that, which is really pleasing.

“The boys can be proud of their efforts. If we look back at the season there were four or five games we could have won.

“It’s been a learning curve and I think the lads will be better for it next year.”

And the captain could blood some fresh faces in his side this weekend.

“It’s time to have a look at a few other young lads really,” he added.

“It will be time to have a look at another couple of players, just to see what they are about and hopefully we can look forward to planning for next season now.”
