FRANK Turrell’s sublime 117 put a huge dent in Poole Town’s Dorset Premier League hopes after Wimborne overcame the title-chasers at the Leaze.

Middle order batsman Turrell’s super innings came off just 105 deliveries and paved the way for the Minstermen to seal a 43-run victory.

Defeat meant Poole slipped to second in the table, 12 points behind Dorchester with one game remaining.

After winning the toss and batting first, Wimborne found themselves in trouble at 54 for four.

But a sublime stand of 142 between Turrell and Ed Bartlett (52) saw them recover to post 240 for seven from their 50 overs.

Hakim Peruzi (2-24) was the pick of the Poole bowlers.

In reply, Poole’s run chase was in a precarious position at 100 for seven.

Some lower order contributions from skipper Dave Miller (26) and Joe Wormington (58) aided the visitors but when they fell, the contest was wrapped up.

Poole were bowled out for 197 from 42.5 overs – Wimborne’s Lewis Freak returned six for 47.

The result means Dorchester will seal the title should they secure nine points at home to Martinstown on Saturday.

Poole will host Shroton in their season finale.
