CAPTAIN Luke Webb smashed a stunning 161 to help Dorset into the box seat after day one of their Unicorns Championship Western Division clash with Wales at North Perrott.

Webb elected to bat first and the home batsmen eased to 44 without loss before Alex Turner (14) became the first of three victims for Andrew Gorvin (3-61).

North Perrott man Alex Eckland (9) fell cheaply, trapped lbw by Gorvin, while Luke Matthews (14) was run out by Tomos Jones as Wales checked Dorset at 113 for three.

Webb, who hit 19 fours and a six, claimed a superb ton moments before Ed Ellis was dismissed by Gorvin at 184-4.

After piling on another 50 runs, the Bournemouth batsman finally succumbed to Jones (1-56) having faced 253 balls – equivalent to 62.1 overs in his mammoth knock.

Scott Currie (67no) and Harry Fisher (29no) also weighed in as Dorset reached 340 for five off 90 overs.

In reply, Wales capitulated to 39 for six off 21 overs as the in-form Brad Currie took four for 23, leaving the away side an enormous 301 runs behind and battling to save the follow-on with just four wickets remaining.
