DETERMINED Nathan Ake insisted his full focus was on gaining success at Cherries despite media reports surrounding his future.

The Netherlands international had been linked with the likes of Leicester and Everton during the final week of this season’s summer transfer window – which on Thursday slammed shut.

Since the window has closed, the 24-year-old has been touted as a potential recruit for former club Chelsea.

The Telegraph claims the Blues can re-sign Ake “for around £40million” once their two-window transfer ban has ended.

But Ake, bought from Stamford Bridge for £20million in June 2017, stressed his thoughts remained as part of Eddie Howe’s squad.

Asked whether anything had come close to materialising leading up to last week’s deadline day, Ake said: “No, I think obviously a few things happened but I just made sure I kept focused on here.

“You never know what can happen but I kept focused on this club and made sure I gave everything for Bournemouth.

“It’s all in the papers and stuff. Obviously, it’s nice to see those things but you can’t do anything with it.

“The only thing you can do is try to play well for the team, play well for the manager and for the club and that’s what I shall do.”

Quizzed further on the links to Stamford Bridge, Ake replied: “When I left Chelsea my focus was on here.

“I didn’t really think about trying to prove them wrong or something like that. I just wanted to prove myself here and become a better player.

“I am still at Bournemouth. I am a Bournemouth player and I will give everything for this club. It’s still the same, trying to do well for the team, trying to finish higher than last season and that’s my focus now.”

The likes of Cherries stars Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser had also been linked with moves away from Vitality Stadium throughout the summer.

But having seen the club keep all of their key assets, ex-Feyenoord youngster Ake is eager to kick on.

“We always want to keep the main players and we also had some good signings,” he added.

“Overall we have a very good squad this season, we just need to build on it.”
