GARRY May revealed how Nico Covatti “went beyond the call of duty” as he continued to ride through the pain barrier of a rib injury.
The gutsy Argentinian, who doubles up with Premiership Poole and Championship Somerset, had still been feeling the effects of the problem – which he sustained in a crash during Pirates’ home victory over Belle Vue last month.
Covatti totalled nine paid 11 during the Rebels 47-43 win at Birmingham on Wednesday.
Somerset team boss May said: “Nico went beyond the call of duty.
“He was really struggling at times with discomfort from his ribs but insisted he didn’t want to let the side down.”
Covatti last week made his Pirates comeback by totalling paid 12 in the 48-42 win against Ipswich at Wimborne Road.
He is expected to line up when Poole host Peterborough on Thursday (7.30pm).
