DETERMINED Sam Surridge revealed a burning desire to net his first Premier League goal for Cherries – and is eager to catch the eye of Eddie Howe in pre-season.

The frontman is one of a reduced collective of first-team members back in training this week, as preparations step up for the club’s fifth campaign at England’s elite level.

Surridge impressed with 12 goals and four assists for League Two Oldham last season.

He was recalled and stayed with Cherries for the second half of the campaign, despite loan interest from Sunderland.

The 20-year-old went on to make his Premier league debut at Arsenal in February, before coming off the bench in the season finale at Crystal Palace.

With Cherries’ final kick of the previous campaign, Surridge worked Eagles goalkeeper Vincente Guaita with a low left-footed effort. And despite failing to open his top-flight account on that occasion, the former Ferndown Upper pupil is ready to graft for more opportunities.

He told the Daily Echo: “I am sure if I get that chance again soon it will be a different result.

“Every appearance I get for the club is massive for me but obviously my next aim now is to get a Premier League goal. Hopefully next season I’ll get a couple of chances to do that.

“I want it loads. My first aim was to get the Premier League appearance and my next one is to get the goal.

“Last season was a good season. I had goals I wanted to get to – I got those at Oldham with the amount of goals I scored there and took that confidence coming back in.

“I haven’t had loads of chances to show what I can do still. Hopefully next season will be a season for me where I can kind of break through and try to do that.”

A product of Cherries’ academy, Surridge had spent time on loan at the likes of Weymouth, Poole Town and Yeovil before his fruitful spell with the Latics alerted other clubs to his ability.

But he insisted his focus remained trying to earn a regular place at Cherries, where he used to ball boy as a child.

“Next season will be a game changer for me,” he added. “I want to work as hard as I can and see what happens in pre-season.

“The main goal is obviously to play for Bournemouth.

“It’s a clean slate in pre-season – that’s where I can catch his (Howe’s) eye and show what I can do.”
