CHERRIES have "agreed a deal" to sell Connor Mahoney to Millwall, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

The winger moved to Vitality Stadium from Blackburn in 2017 and has made two appearances for Eddie Howe's first team, both in the FA Cup against Wigan in 2018.

But he has spent the majority of the past two years away from Cherries.

Mahoney played eight games during four months on loan at Barnsley in 2018 before spending the entirety of the 2018-19 campaign at Championship side Birmingham.

And now the 22-year-old is reportedly set to leave on a permanent basis to join second-tier Millwall, with one source telling the Daily Echo they were "almost certain" of the Lions' interest in the Cherries man.

Howe: Mahoney 'can be part of our future'

Mahoney is keen for regular first-team football having played 32 games for Birmingham last season, saying in a recent interview with Birmingham Live: "I will reiterate to the gaffer (Eddie Howe) that I need to be playing week in, week out.

“I think this season I have proved to a lot of people that I should be in a good environment and playing football each week.

"That's something me and him (Howe) will look at and go from there.

"The main thing for me next season is to push on and get more games under my belt."

Speaking last month, Howe confirmed he would sit down with the former England under-20 international this summer to discuss the possibility of him featuring for Cherries next season.

And the Cherries boss added how happy he was with Mahoney's performances on loan at Birmingham, telling the Daily Echo: "It’s a great sign for us.

“It gives us confidence that Connor can come back here and be part of our future."

No deal is expected to be complete today. Mahoney is tonight due to return home from a holiday in Spain ahead of the start of pre-season.
