DORSET under-16s clinched the South and West Counties Championship, despite losing their final match.
Having won their first four games, Dorset topped the standings heading into their clash against Berks and Bucks.
Leading 3-2 late on thanks to goals from Neemo Nixon (2) and Cameron Munn, Richard Robson’s side were stunned to lose 4-3.
That meant Dorset were left relying on results elsewhere to be sure of the trophy and with Somerset slipping up, the 12 points were enough to take top spot. Dorset’s quest for glory started way back in October when two goals from Munn earned victory over Devon in a clash in Poole.
What turned out to be the crucial success was again down to a home win, with Munn on the score-sheet against Somerset. This is the first time in 12 years that a Dorset under-16 team has lifted this trophy.
