BOURNEMOUTH skipper Chris Park heaped praise on opening bowler Dan Conway’s stellar start to the campaign.

The Herefordshire minor counties seamer has the best economy rate of Lions’ attack throughout the opening three Southern Premier League games this season – going at just 2.60 runs per over.

Conway continued his consistent start by picking up two for 21 in Saturday’s washed out contest against Havant at Chapel Gate.

Bournemouth had managed to restrict the visitors to 205 for eight before rain thwarted their opportunity to bat.

Conway joined Bournemouth before the start of the 2018 season and helped Lions lift the Southern League Division One crown.

Park told the Daily Echo: “Dan has been brilliant so far this year with the white ball.

“He would be the first to put his hand up and say last year he didn’t bowl to the standards I know he has done in minor counties cricket against me.

“But this season he has been our standout bowler.

“I think he is enjoying his cricket. He has been a good acquisition in the last year and a half for us.”

Assessing the contest against Havant, Park added: “It was slightly annoying but you can’t influence mother nature. It was a fairly decent bowling performance and we were happy at tea.

“But there was no chance of getting back out there.

“To restrict them to 205, I was positive and confident going into the second innings.

“There were no gremlins in the pitch and I was confident we would have a good go at chasing it.”

Tom Robinson (3-45) and Dom Clutterbuck (2-38) were also in the wickets for Lions. Havant’s Peter Hopson struck 95.
