CHERRIES are 'monitoring the situation' regarding the availability of Everton winger Ademola Lookman, according to a report in the Independent.

The 21-year-old moved to Goodison Park from Charlton Athletic for £11million in January 2017, but has failed to nail down a regular starting berth with the Toffees.

Southampton are said to be targeting a £20m move for the wide-man with Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl having worked with Lookman when the Englishman was on loan at Hasenhuttl's former club RB Leipzig last season.

The report claims Leipzig attempted to make the move permanent last summer, but their £22m bid was rejected as Everton held out for £28m.

England under-21 international Lookman, who has two years left on his contract, was restricted to just three Premier League starts this season under Marco Silva.

Leipzig are said to still be interested in resurrecting a deal with Cherries also keeping tabs on the situation.
