CHERRIES defender Tyrone Mings impressed for loan club Aston Villa as they booked their place in the Championship play-off final with victory over rivals West Bromwich Albion on penalties.

Villa goalkeeper Jed Steer delivered two fine saves in the shoot-out to help send his team to Wembley after the Baggies earned a 1-0 win on the night at the Hawthorns, making it 2-2 on aggregate.

Chelsea loanee and England international Tammy Abraham netted the winning spot-kick for Dean Smith's side.

West Brom ended the clash with 10 men after Chris Brunt was sent off in the 80th minute for a second bookable offence.

Mings, who made the temporary switch to Villa Park in January, played every minute of the semi-final tie and could feature in the play-off showdown on Monday, May 27 (3pm).

Asked about the side's spirit and attitude to find a way to win, the centre-back told Sky Sports: "As soon as I got here, there was a great atmosphere between the lads and our recent run of results has proved we have got some resilience and we always seem to find a way to win at the moment.

"We are delighted to come here and eventually get the win.

"It was difficult when they went down to 10 men but credit to the lads. We have got such a great set of lads here, who never know when they are beaten or never know when to give up."
