NNAMDI Ofoborh has been named in Nigeria’s 21-man squad for the upcoming FIFA Under-20 World Cup.

The Cherries midfielder recently scored for the Super Eagles in a friendly against German side VfR Aalen and has done enough to earn his spot in Paul Aigbogun’s squad.

The tournament is being held in Poland and gets underway later this month.

Nigeria’s first match is against Qatar on May 24 before a trip to Bielsko-Biala where they face USA three days later.

Aigbogun’s men round off their group phase on May 30, taking on Ukraine.

Ofoborh, 19, is yet to make his senior Cherries debut but has regularly trained with the first team this season and was named on the bench for recent Premier League matches against Fulham and Tottenham.

The squad is mainly made up of players based in Nigeria but Manchester City’s Tom Dele-Bashiru has also made the cut.

Cherries midfielder Lewis Cook captained the England side which won the U20 World Cup in 2017 but the holders are not involved this time around, failing to qualify after losing a play-off 3-0 against Norway.

That makes them the sixth successive winners not to make it through to the following event.
