BOURNEMOUTH skipper Chris Park hailed the destructive hitting of batsman Luke Webb – even if it meant he feared for the safety of his car.

Lions number three Webb scored 141 from 150 deliveries in his side’s 28-run Southern Premier League victory at Basingstoke.

He reached three figures from 130 balls before accelerating the scoring rate in the latter stages – helping the visitors to 244 for eight from their 50 overs.

Lions bowled out the hosts for 216 in reply to get their season off to a flying start.

Speaking about Webb’s sublime innings, Park told the Daily Echo: “Batting with Webby with about 12 overs to go, he said to me he was going to be there with three or four overs left and then chance his luck.

“I think he hit four consecutive sixes in one over. Within two overs he basically scored nearly 40 runs himself.

“There was fantastic hitting from him. At one stage I had to come out of the pavilion and go and stand by my car, just to protect it because the sixes all went within about five metres of it!”

Ed Denham was the stand-out bowler for the visitors with four for 28.
