HAYWARD Saturday League Division One title contenders Gotham were beaten in the Hampshire Junior A Cup final, going down 4-1 to a strong Harvest Home side.

Gotham keeper Scot MacFarlane made a great save after seven minutes to turn the ball round the post.

But he was beaten two minutes later when Harvest Home’s Nathan Newer slotted the ball past him into the far corner to open the scoring.

Harvest Home doubled their lead after 20 minutes when Gotham’s Lyam Teixceira was penalised and Michael Granger sent MacFarlane the wrong way with the resulting penalty.

MacFarlane then got down well to save from Remi Cake after he had been put through by Zach MacGregor.

Gotham made two changes at half-time and it paid dividends three minutes into the second half when Shane Fox made ground on the left to get in a cross.

With goalkeeper Joe Turner under pressure from Gotham’s other substitute Stuart Marshall, the ball fell to the unmarked Shane Sheridan at the far post for a close-range tap-in.

But Gotham’s revival was cut short five minutes later when MacFarlane blocked MacGregor’s shot only for Newer to pounce on the rebound and restore Harvest Home’s two-goal advantage.

Marshall raced through for Gotham on the hour but Joe Turner came out to dive at his feet.

MacGregor fired in a low shot in the 85th minute that MacFarlane blocked with his legs before Tom Jarman fired a 20-yard effort against the Gotham crossbar.

And Harvest Home added a fourth goal in the last minute.

After good work on the left from Henry Fletcher, the ball came across to Cake whose low drive from the edge of the penalty area took a deflection and flew past MacFarlane into the net.
