SAINTS boss Ralph Hasenhuttl insisted Cherries had “never been in trouble” this season after their “fantastic” start to the campaign.

Eddie Howe’s men, who took 20 points from their opening 10 games, tomorrow head to St Mary’s (3pm) knowing victory would see them finish as the highest south coast club in the top flight.

Saints know a win could see their Premier League status secured for next season, as well as closing to one point the gap on Cherries.

Speaking about Howe’s side, Austrian boss Hasenhuttl said: “I think they had a very calm season, because they had a fantastic start and immediately took a lot of points.

“The second half of the season was not that good but they have never been in trouble really this season.

“They have very young manager with a lot of games in the Premier League, a lot of experience and who has done a fantastic job.

“It’s a special game and for us, it’s mainly a special game because we can make the last step (to safety).

“We are very motivated to make the last step in front of our crowd, it’s exactly what we wanted to have three games before the end and now we have the chance.”
