POPPIES ended their successful Wessex Premier season with a 2-1 defeat at Fareham Town.

Marksman River Smith levelled late in the first half for third-placed Poppies after Gary Austin's opener in the seventh minute. In the second half, Andrea Carrera restored Fareham's lead just after the hour mark.

Hamworthy United slipped to a 3-2 reverse against Wessex Premier champions Sholing at Specsavers County Ground.

Connor Cocklin and James Guthrie both found the net for Hammers, with Dan Mason (2) and Pete Castle scoring for the visitors. Defeat saw Hamworthy drop to sixth on goal difference.

Lymington fell to 10th after a 1-1 home draw against Bemerton Heath Harlequins. Mickey Finch notched for the hosts, while Harry Rogers was on target for the Salisbury club.

Cameron Beard's headed goal for Bashley failed to prevent a 2-1 loss at Portland United.

Ryan McKechnie gave Portland the lead before Beard restored parity in first-half stoppage time. However, Jamie Beasley slotted a free-kick beyond goalkeeper Cameron Plain in the 60th minute to secure victory for the Dorset side.

In Wessex One, Charlie Gajic earned Verwood a 1-0 win over league leaders Amesbury at Potterne Park.

New Milton suffered a 2-0 reverse against Newport and Ringwood slumped to a 4-0 defeat at AFC Stoneham.
