EDDIE Howe says he will wait until the summer before deciding whether to recall Jermain Defoe from his loan spell at Rangers.

The Cherries striker is due to stay in Glasgow until the end of the 2019-20 season on an 18-month loan deal, but could be brought back to Vitality Stadium in July.

Former England striker Defoe has enjoyed a fruitful spell in front of goal since moving north of the border in January, netting six goals in 15 appearances for the Ibrox outfit.

But Howe says he is not yet thinking about whether the 36-year-old could be part of his plans for the next campaign.

Howe told the Daily Echo: “To be honest, we’re so engrossed in what we’re doing here that we haven’t had a chance to sit down and discuss anything on that side.

“I’m sure that’ll be one for the summer, but I’m really pleased to see Jermain doing so well.”

Speaking himself last week, Defoe stated his desire to remain at Rangers.

He said: “I want to stay here, for sure.

“I want a full season to try to achieve something special here.”
