SOUTHMAPTON'S St Mary’s home is in pole position to host an England international 17 years after they last played host to the Three Lions.

Gareth Southgate’s team are expected to return to the south coast to face Kosovo in a Euro 2020 qualifier on September 10 after the FA confirmed the game will not be staged at Wembley.

St Mary’s had it’s one and thus far only England international in October 2002, which resulted in a disappointing 2-2 draw with Macedonia with David Beckham and Steven Gerrard scoring.

Saints and The FA are understood to be waiting on approval from UEFA before making a formal announcement.

The Group A fixture would be the first competitive game England will have played away from Wembley since Old Trafford hosted a qualifier against Macedonia in October 2006.
