PIRATES will again don race jackets for the upcoming campaign – but boss Matt Ford admits suits could be back next year.

Ford took a nostalgic route when he opted to use race jackets for the title-winning season of 2018, a move he admitted had been a cost-cutting measure.

And while the sartorial choice caused dismay in some quarters, there were few complaining when Poole secured SGB Premiership glory at King’s Lynn.

Ford told the Daily Echo: “We’ve gone for race jackets again.

“I feel we will return to suits in the future and it could well be next year. But at this point in time, I decided to stick with what we had last season.

“I did say before that campaign that I didn’t feel team suits made us go any faster and we did win the league with race jackets.

“Long term, I see us going back to Kevlars but I do need the television contract to increase significantly before we consider that.”

Last season was the first time in 19 years that the entire Poole team had worn uniform race jackets with different suits underneath.
