POOLE Town reached the Dorset Senior Cup final for the first time in five years after overcoming rivals Weymouth, writes Jack Tanner.

A slightly-rotated Dolphins outfit sealed victory over a young Terras line-up 2-0 thanks to goals from Sam Griffin and Sam House.

There was also a boost for Dolphins as Poole stalwart Michael Walker marked another milestone in his comeback from injury by being named on the bench.

First-team coach Micky Hubbard told the Daily Echo: “From the first half, I thought we were a lot better than them.

“They had rested a few more than us – which was a shame really, it sort of ruined the game a little bit. That’s not to disrespect anybody playing but you always want to play a strong team in a semi-final against your local rivals.

“Throughout the game, we didn’t have many outstanding, clear-cut chances. We opened them up quite a lot, got into some good areas but we didn’t take our chances. We lacked a sort of quality in the final third.”

Dolphins took their time before grabbing the opener after 29 minutes, when Griffin steered home after a trademark mazy run.

Poole sealed the tie 11 minutes from time. House ensured his side’s place in the final against Wimborne by winning the ball high up the pitch and smashing past Tom McHale in the Weymouth goal.
