Glenn Murray didn’t celebrate when he opened the scoring in Brighton’s 2-1 victory in the A23 derby despite feeling the wrath of Crystal Palace fans.

Anthony Knockaert went on to score a sublime winner to give Chris Hughton’s side the bragging rights in the bitter rivalry as they completed the double over Roy Hodgson this season.

Murray spent four years at Selhurst Park scoring 47 goals in all competitions before heading to the south coast with Bournemouth and then Brighton, and despite now wearing the blue and white stripes of the Gulls his respect for his former employers remains.

“It’s purely because I enjoyed my time up here,” said Murray.

“I’ve no ill feeling towards the club, I had some fantastic years there, played with some fantastic players in a successful period for the club and that’s why I never celebrated.

“On the other hand when I scored goals for Palace against Brighton I didn’t celebrate either.”

Scott Dann

Murray spoke fondly of his time with Palace and singled out Scott Dann for praise.

He’s a fantastic footballer.

Dann was a big member of the dressing room when I was here.

“I think it’s obviously difficult when you’ve been out for a long time with injury, I know from personal experience.

“But he looks good and I wish him all the best.”
