WEYMOUTH will this year race in Dorset for the first time in nearly a decade when they line up on Wimborne Road shale.

Wildcats were forced to call time on speedway at their Wessex Stadium home in 2010 but made a dramatic comeback in 2017 when the club entered the Southern Development League.

And after racing at Plymouth and Eastbourne for two years, the 2008 Conference League champions will be back in their home county in spring.

Weymouth bosses James Tresadern and Martin Peters approached new Pirates promoter Danny Ford earlier this year and Poole will now host six SDL meetings.

Wildcats will contest six heats after Pirates have completed their Thursday night fixtures at Wimborne Road.

Ford told the club website: “We were approached by Weymouth and were delighted to help them.

“It will be amazing to have the Wildcats back in Dorset and I really hope Pirates fans get behind the club and stay on for SDL meetings.

“We also wanted to put on something extra this year for Pirates supporters to say thank you for their support during last year’s title-winning season.

“To also be able to assist with the development of young UK riders through the Wildcats and the SDL is a real joy for us as a club and we can’t wait to welcome Weymouth to their new home.”

Dates for the SDL meetings are yet to be confirmed.
