CHERRIES tonight emerged from the January transfer window with their top stars still on board.

Callum Wilson, Nathan Ake, David Brooks and Ryan Fraser had been linked with moves but the quartet remained at Vitality Stadium.

The same goes for Asmir Begovic and Lys Mousset, whose respective futures had been the subject of speculation.

The most intense rumours were regarding Wilson, with Chelsea assistant Gianfranco Zola having confirmed the Blues’ interest in the striker before Christmas.

Cherries boss Eddie Howe said it was his personal preference not to sell the ex-Coventry man – currently sidelined by a knee injury – at any price and insisted the 26-year-old had not been affected by the rumours.

And Wilson, whose stock has risen sharply this season courtesy of 11 goals in 24 games, backed up those claims by netting on both his outings in January.

Cherries did allow one first-team player to leave today, Tyrone Mings linking up with Championship outfit Aston Villa on loan until the end of the campaign.

The Daily Echo understands there is no obligation or option for Villa to buy the defender in the summer.

Discussing what it had been like to move on the final day of the window, Mings told the Villa website: “It’s great to be part of if the deal happens and you get what you want but it is stressful. The whole month has been stressful.

“You know the window is open so things could happen any day. I’m just grateful it’s over and I’m here. My overriding feeling is relief.

“It’s an exciting time to be at the club. I spoke with the manager (Dean Smith) before I came here and the chance to work with him and his coaching staff, who I knew as well, was a big factor.

“Where the club is and what they are trying to do was a massive pull for me to be a part of. It seems a great fit for me to come here and play some games.”

Mings arrived at the seven-time English champions having played just 141 Premier League minutes this season.

Ravaged by knee and back injuries since joining Cherries in the summer of 2015, the centre-half has only featured in 23 games for the Dorset club.

Meanwhile, Cherries kept Sam Surridge at Vitality Stadium having recalled the young frontman from his loan at League Two Oldham earlier this month.

Surridge had attracted plenty of attention from League One with Oxford United and Bradford making public their admiration, while Plymouth were also said to be interested.

Elsewhere, two Cherries youngsters today completed loan moves to National South clubs for the rest of the season.

Defender Corey Jordan joined 15th-place Eastbourne Borough and midfielder Frank Vincent switched to league leaders Torquay United.

Mudeford-raised Jordan, who made his Cherries debut in the EFL Cup against Preston in September 2016, could feature against Truro City on Saturday.

Former Queens Park Rangers and Barnet ace Vincent will hope to earn selection to face East Thurrock United.
