Tom Killick admitted there had been little to shout about after Poole Town played out a goalless draw against Chesham United.

Dolphins had been on the hunt for a first Southern League South home win since October but had to settle for their first home clean sheet in 11 games.

In the first half, Poole went closest through Jake Smeeton but chances were few and far between.

James Constable had the encounter’s only true shot on target saved in the 54th minute, after the veteran striker smashed the ball straight at goalkeeper Ben Goode.

Killick told the Daily Echo: “Chesham came with a clear game plan, which was to try to avoid conceding and play for the draw.

“They kept a lot of men behind the ball and in their own half at all times meaning they were hard to break down.

“That, combined with difficult conditions in front of a sparse attendance, and the fact we did not play particularly well, meant it was a very stagnant encounter.

“We lacked any real sort of imagination or creativity to pick them apart. I accept we didn’t create any meaningful opportunities or chances either.

“The only positive is that it is another clean sheet to add on to the one from last Saturday but to be honest, Chesham never really tested us.”

Killick named an unchanged side in a bid for consistency but was forced into a change in the 20th minute after Will Spetch suffered a groin strain.

“It just seems like the story of recent weeks for us where we will have an injury to a defender,” said Killick. “Will had to come off due to a groin injury and that was disruptive.

“A lot of sides in the league will struggle with their home games against Chesham. They have no real ambition to win away games.”

Dolphins remained 11th in Southern League South, seven points behind Harrow Borough who occupy the final play-off spot. Poole on Saturday are due to return to the Black Gold Stadium against Kings Langley.
