BOSS Matty Holmes saw son Luke’s sublime piece of skill light up social media before admitting: “I couldn’t have done that in my playing days.”

Midfielder Luke produced a moment of magic during Magpies’ commanding 4-0 home triumph over Merthyr earlier this month.

Having picked up the ball on the touchline, the former Cherries youngster showed lightning quick feet to nutmeg his opposite number in Rabona-like fashion.

The clip posted by the club’s official Twitter account has more than 53,000 views and has been used by Sky’s Soccer AM.

And manager Holmes admitted he had been as mesmerised as the Merthyr defender, with the trickery occurring right by the Wimborne dugout.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow's home game against Met Police (7.45pm), he told the Daily Echo: “I couldn’t have done that in my playing days, that’s for sure! I know his uncle Danny shouted out ‘wow, how did you do that?!’

“He said it was off the cuff. It was one of those reactions in the heat of the moment.

"The media guys at the club have exposed it and it’s great that we get a bit of coverage from his bit of skill.

“It’s what the paying people want, they want to see people do those skills. There’s nothing worse than watching a game of football when nothing is happening or you aren’t entertained.

“You want to see players taking on others and I hope we try to do that. We try to have an attacking ethos and try to excite the crowd.”

Asked how Luke had responded to becoming an Internet sensation, manager Matty said: “He has just taken it as he does, he walks through life without a care! He has got the ability to do things like that.

“We want to play him in that number-10 role as much as we can and get him on the ball all the time.

“The boys have had a bit of banter with him and it’s great. Whether they will try to copy him in the right areas to get themselves online – I hope not!”

Visitors Met Police are second in the table and have been on a fine run, with just one defeat since the start of December.

Magpies are unbeaten in their past nine home league fixtures.

“Their front two score goals and we have to be really at it against another team who are up there for a reason,” added the Wimborne manager.

“They seem to know their jobs and are winning games week in, week out. We have to make sure we turn up with the same attitude and desire.”

The hosts are due to be without experienced midfielder Carl Pettefer. He is set for surgery on a broken thumb.
