BOSS Tom Killick brought up his 500th victory in charge of Poole Town as they overcame Dorset rivals Dorchester 2-0 at the Avenue.

Dolphins flew out the traps as Marvin Brooks latched on to a long ball over the top to slot home after just five minutes.

And Brooks was involved in the second just six minutes later, after he was felled in the box.

James Constable stepped up to send home the ball from the penalty spot and ensure the visitors recorded their 10th league success of the campaign.

Killick has won 500 of his 804 games in charge of Dolphins since his appointment in May 2004, giving him a win ratio of more than 62 per cent.

Victory meant Dolphins bounced back after they were dramatically pegged back in a 3-3 draw at home to Harrow Borough last Tuesday.

Assessing the landmark triumph, Killick told the Daily Echo: “I thought it was a good performance, especially after the disappointment of Tuesday.

“I felt we were under quite a lot of pressure to get a result and the players started really well.

“We got the two early goals and were playing against a strong wind in the first half. I felt we created far more chances and the only disappointment was not to be further in front.

“In the second half, being the home side and being behind, Dorchester were always going to try to put us under pressure.

“I thought we withstood it well and restricted them to not many opportunities – I don’t think there was anything clear-cut.

“To go away from home and really stop the other team having a meaningful chance, that says a lot about our defending and our work-ethic.”

Victory put Dolphins eight points adrift of a play-off spot. They have three games in hand on fifth-place Harrow.

While Killick was impressed with the performances on the pitch, he also credited the club’s fans for getting behind his charges at Dorchester.

“I thought the supporters were brilliant,” he added.

“Credit to them – they must be feeling frustrated and disappointed but they still turned out in their numbers and were really vociferous – they really, really helped us. You can’t underestimate that. We need to focus on getting some better results generally, and hopefully that will include some home results.”
