MATT Ford unveiled new promoters Danny Ford and Anthony Tilley and admitted the duo could give Pirates “an option for the future”.

Tilley, 41, is a director of Poole-based company Bespoke 4 Business, a digital marketing agency where 24-year-old Danny – Ford’s son – works as a senior project manager.

Boss Ford has made no secret of the fact Poole Speedway is up for sale and while he is happy to continue to steer the ship this year, the club’s long-term future is uncertain.

However, the two new promoters could present an option to the owner, who is seeking to pursue a new business interest abroad.

Chief Ford told the Daily Echo: “For 2019, nothing will change, unless anything unforeseen happens and I receive an offer which would benefit the club.

“These guys getting involved could, potentially, give us an option for the future and perhaps there is something we could do to increase their involvement.

“Let’s see how it goes this year. I’m confident. It’s already proven highly successful in how Tilley helped the club secure the signing of No1 Carpet Cleaning to become our principle sponsor.

“And with the support of Dan and myself, it’s an exciting team.”

Ford hopes the expertise of his new recruits will prove crucial.

Discussing Danny, who alongside brother Sam is already a director at Poole Speedway, Ford said: “Dan has been connected with the club ever since I’ve owned it.

“When me and Mike Golding took over at the end of 1998, Dan was one of the first people to come to the stadium with me.

“I think he was more impressed with the fact we owned a couple of tractors than a speedway club!

“But that has changed over the years. On the wall in my office there are several pictures of Dan celebrating different wins with different riders.

“He has been a regular for the past 12 years or so. What I like about Dan in the respect of this role is he knows every rider and their strengths and weaknesses.

“He’s been around me long enough to pick up a lot about the riders and the sport in general.

“This year I want to teach him a lot more in terms of the everyday running of the club. He is enthusiastic and wants the sport to move forward.”

Tilley is a former footballer who spent time at Brighton and Portsmouth as a youngster and also played in South Africa.

Reflecting on the arrival of the ex-Corfe Hills pupil, Ford said: “Tilley is incredibly respected and is quite an influential character locally.

“He has a wealth of experience and we are going to benefit by listening to how he markets his own company.

“We have already given him a budget to make sure we are promoted in a similar fashion.”
