PIRATES number one Jack Holder finished fourth in the Jason Crump Classic Cup – a warm-up for the Australian Senior Solo Championship.

In front of more than 2,500 fans, Jack progressed to the B final in the Boxing Day event at Kurri Kurri having scored 11 points in his five qualifying rides.

He then saw off Jye Etheridge, Germany’s Erik Riss and Mason Campton in a fiercely-contested heat to secure a spot in the A final.

But Jack, who won the New South Wales Solo Championship earlier this month, finished at the back of the pack in the meeting’s showpiece race.

His older brother Chris, a Pirates asset, finished top of the podium ahead of reigning Aussie champion Rohan Tungate and Sam Masters.

Chris had not dropped a point all night, making the meeting ideal preparation for his tilt at a sixth national title.

Having finished outside the top eight in the Grand Prix this year, Chris will hope to reach the 2020 qualifying rounds with a strong performance in the five-round Australian Championship, which begins at Adelaide track Gillman on Thursday, January 3.

Both Holders will be joined in the series by the likes of Poole star Brady Kurtz, Max Fricke, Tungate and Masters.
