TOM Killick admitted he was left baffled by being sent off during the latter stages of Poole Town‘s derby defeat to Wimborne.

The Dolphins boss was sent from the touchline five minutes from time by referee Jake Topp for foul and abusive language at Black Gold Stadium, after an incident was referred to the match official by his assistant.

With Killick out of the dugout, Poole fell to a 5-2 reverse as their arch rivals recorded a first away Southern League South victory of the season.

Toby Holmes struck twice on his 26th birthday for Magpies, while there were also goals for James Stokoe, Luke Burbidge and Curtis Young.

It was midfielder Stokoe that Killick felt had been let off the hook by the officials in the opening period – which eventually led to the manager receiving his marching orders.

The Poole boss told the Daily Echo: “I was frustrated at the fact that their number seven (Stokoe) had committed two fouls in the first half that I felt were yellow cards – he didn’t even get one.

“After the first one the referee had a chat with him and you assumed he was saying ‘no more’. Then he committed another one that I felt was a yellow card on its own.

“Understandably, he was going to carry on going making fouls and I think he got a yellow card after about his 28th foul.

“I said ‘how many fouls has that… player – and I did use some expletives – got to commit before he gets a yellow card’.

“But I was referring to a player. I wasn’t abusive to the linesman, so it was quite a strange situation.

“I don’t feel very proud of saying what I said.

“But I was sort of being abusive to the player, not the official, so it was just a bit of a bizarre one. I was quite shocked when I got sent off.

“All three of them (the officials) will probably say they heard it – the linesman over the other side will say he heard it. His mum would have been watching and she’ll have heard it – they will sit in the changing room and all write it down.

“That is the least of our worries.”

Hosts Poole had led 2-1 thanks to goals from James Constable and Luke Roberts.

Killick added: “It was ridiculous really. We were so in control in the first half and the first part of the second half – it was men against boys.

“I don’t mean to sound disrespectful but there was just a big gulf between the two sides. We were frustrated we weren’t further in front.

“Suddenly Marvin (Brooks) went off and we started dropping a bit deeper. They perhaps sensed they had a little opportunity. Some of their players who hadn’t really taken part in the game decided to take part.

“Everything changed round and from looking at a game where I felt there was a big difference in quality, we ended up losing 5-2. It’s just quite difficult to accept when you have underperformed to that level.”
