EDDIE Howe is rumoured to be a ‘leading contender’ to become Tottenham manager should the London club fail to keep hold of Mauricio Pochettino.

The Daily Mail reports Howe is Spurs's preferred replacement if Pochettino moves to Manchester United.

The tabloid also says the Cherries boss's "reputation for attractive football and improving his players" makes him the type of manager Tottenham would be looking for.

Howe's side are due to take on Spurs at Wembley on Boxing Day.

Manchester United appointed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as caretaker manager after sacking Jose Mourinho on Monday.

The club is now set to launch a thorough recruitment process for a new full-time manager.

According to the Daily Mail report, the Red Devils are ready to make Pochettino their 'number one target'.

Mourinho's managerial spell at United came to an end after the 3-1 defeat at rivals Liverpool on Sunday.
