MATT Ford admitted the decision not to bring back Frederik Jakobsen to Pirates had been made with costs in mind.

But the Poole chief did not rule out the prospect of club asset Jakobsen playing some part in the 2019 campaign, should changes be required.

The young Dane arrived at Wimborne Road in June and helped the club win the SGB Premiership crown, supplying the title-clinching heat alongside Nicolai Klindt.

Ford told the Daily Echo: “When you win the league, it is always a disappointment to let people go.

“The club is having to make decisions for next year which it hasn’t necessarily had to make in the past.

“We haven’t got a main team sponsor and have lost two other long-term sponsors as well, so I’ve had to work within a certain budget.

“That means those who the club had to fly in and contribute to mechanics for have not been given starting places and Frederik falls in that category.

“I am hoping he will get set up in Britain and there is a possibility with one or two clubs. But if he doesn’t, he would certainly come into our consideration should we need to make changes.

“I certainly see him playing an active role in the club in the future.”
