CARL Pettefer is set to end his five-year spell at Poole Town tomorrow ahead of a move to Southern League South rivals Wimborne Town.

The 37-year-old midfielder will be released from his Dolphins contract after the match against Chesham United at Black Gold Stadium (3pm).

Poole chairman Chris Reeves told the club website: “To contemplate Carl Pettefer not being a Poole Town player is very hard.

"He is probably up there in the top five or so most popular players ever to have worn our colours.

"He has never once given less than 100 per cent in any game and his consistency of form has been a constant eight plus out of ten, never letting his standards slip.

"He has been an absolute pleasure to have around, a brilliant player, loyal colleague and true gentleman.

"Recently his pitch time has been limited and, with realistically his playing career being in its final throes, out of respect for all he has done for us we have agreed to release him from his contract to allow him to find a club where he will be able to play with greater regularity.

"He will always be regarded however as one of our own and will be inducted into the Poole Town hall of fame at the next legends night that is currently in the course of being planned."

The former Portsmouth and Oxford United midfielder joined Poole in 2013 and helped the club secure the Southern Premier title in the 2015-16 season.
