HAMWORTHY United missed out on reaching the final of the Bournemouth Senior Cup after they fell to a 3-1 defeat at Wessex Division One promotion contenders Hythe & Dibden.

After a goalless first half, Liam Goulding opened the scoring for the home side in the 50th minute. His 25-yard effort deflected off a defender and left keeper Tom Rees without a chance.

Hammers pegged the goal back five minutes later through Nathan Walker's looping effort.

However, Hythe & Dibden regained the lead when Rob Pitman converted the rebound after Rees could only parry Sam Woodward's driven shot.

Further saves from Rees kept Hamworthy in the game until Woodward's drilled the ball home in stoppage time to secure the win.

The victory was Hythe & Dibden's third Wessex Premier scalp in the Bournemouth Senior Cup.

Terry Cox's team will look to make it four wins against higher-division sides in Tuesday's Hurn Bridge final when they face Poppies.
