WIMBORNE'S unbeaten run in South West One East crashed to a halt after a bruising 57-14 defeat at rivals Banbury.
A much-changed side travelled to Oxfordshire and faced a wave of early pressure.
Through a mixture of impressive play and questionable defending, Banbury racked up 24 unanswered points.
The Minstermen then enjoyed their strongest period in the match after the flow of attacks from the home side had been stemmed.
Josh Booth touched down an opportune score when he broke from his own half to score in the 25th minute.
Wimborne continued to press and appeared to reduce the deficit further on the stroke of half-time, only for the try to be ruled out for a forward pass.
After the break, Banbury restored their command on the game and ran in five further tries across the second period.
The visitors gained a small consolation with the final score of the match.
Dec Foley drove over the whitewash underneath the posts to reduce to 43 the margin of defeat.
The loss ended at five Wimborne's winning run and left the Dorset club sixth in the table.
On Saturday, Chippenham visit Leigh Park for the final game before the Christmas break.
