EDDIE Howe registered his delight after promising youngster Sam Surridge signed a new contract at Cherries.

The 20-year-old striker, on loan at League Two Oldham, penned a fresh deal tying him to Cherries until 2021.

Boss Howe told the Daily Echo: “I’m pleased Sam has pledged his future to us – he is a talented player with a great attitude. He wants to win and wants to score.

“He wants to do well and, most importantly, wants to learn. I’m delighted he’s staying with us.”

Schooled at Ferndown Middle and Ferndown Upper, Surridge has scored nine goals in 14 appearances for Oldham, where he is set to remain for the campaign.

The frontman was named League Two player of the month for September and his stint at Boundary Park is the latest in a series of loan spells.

He bagged 10 goals in 53 appearances while at Yeovil Town last season, which included playing 90 minutes of the Glovers’ FA Cup defeat to Manchester United.

Surridge, who has been likened to former Cherries star Brett Pitman by Howe, has also had temporary stints with Poole Town and Weymouth.

The Slough-born ace is in his second spell at Cherries, having left as a schoolboy.
