DIEGO Rico gained minutes on the pitch in Cherries' 4-1 win over Portsmouth in the Central League Cup.

Alex Dobre gave Shaun Cooper’s side the lead when he fired home to complete a neat passing move in the 13th minute.

Pompey responded almost immediately through Adam May, who dispatched a cross into the net past Aaron Ramsdale.

However, three second-half goals from the Dorset club secured the win.

Kyle Taylor restored Cherries’ lead just a minute after the break. The talented midfielder diverted Rico’s shot beyond Portsmouth keeper Leon Pitman.

Captain Nnamdi Ofoborh extended the advantage with a stunning strike from range in the 78th minute before Matt Butcher, who played his first game after a long-term injury lay-off, slammed in a fourth.

The Cherries side also included first-team players Marc Pugh, Lys Mousset and Jack Simpson.
