SWANAGE & Wareham stormed to a 34-18 victory at Weymouth & Portland – ensuring they held on to top spot in Dorset & Wilts One South.

Despite falling behind to an early penalty, the visitors seized control when scrum-half Chris Tomes crossed following a lineout and Steve Woolley sent the conversion between the posts.

Winger Harry Spyers stretched the lead in the 15th minute after a quickly-taken penalty but indiscipline from Swans in their own 22 handed Weymouth a try of their own.

A well-worked lineout helped to restore the gap between the sides with flanker Luke Robinson crossing for the league leaders.

Swans secured a try bonus point before half-time when Kirk Jones muscled over from a scrum and Woolley converted.

A sloppy start to the second period allowed Weymouth to score their second try but from the restart, the Purbeck side showed their class.

After a penalty had been awarded, Swans passed along the three quarters and Barnaby Knibb delivered the finish.

The game descended into a scrum battle until Weymouth collected a loose ball and raced clear to score under the posts.

Despite their 11-point lead, Swans continued to attack and reaped the rewards when Matt Roberts forced his way across the line after another lineout.
