POOLE Town boss Tom Killick praised the impact Cherries youngsters had made for his side.

Killick welcomed striker Jake Scrimshaw and defender Brennan Camp on loan from Alan Connell's under-18 squad this month.

Scrimshaw marked his debut for Dolphins by plundering six goals against Portland United while Camp featured for the first time at Wimborne Town on Tuesday.

The pair of 18-year-olds are in contention to feature in Saturday's FA Trophy third qualifying round match against Dorking Wanderers at Black Gold Stadium (3pm).

And the Dolphins boss said he had seen major development in Cherries' academy prospects.

"I have noticed a big change," said Killick. "On the one hand it is expected because the levels of the club have risen so much but it is very apparent to me how good their young players are and how well-coached they are.

"People also don't see the positive work ethic they bring. It is obvious to me Bournemouth set high standards in relation to that.

"When you get players from Bournemouth they seem to be good individuals in terms of their personality.

"It is very pleasing for us to have them and we are very grateful for the help the club give us."

Camp started at right-back in the 3-0 defeat at Cuthbury before switching to his favoured centre-back role.

Killick, who has often called on the services of loanees from the Premier League outfit, said the defender looked "very assured and accomplished".

"It is beneficial for us that their young players seem to be so able to make an immediate impact for us," said Killick.

"They are of the calibre where they can really make a difference. Physically we are finding they are very good as well.

"One thing I have always found with Bournemouth players is they value the players' attitude and personality, credit to Eddie Howe and everyone at the club for that.

"Bournemouth are very keen on players conducting themselves well, which is another big thing."

Poole required a replay against Brentwood in the FA Trophy second qualifying round with goals from Richard Gillespie, Sam Griffin, Sam House and Scrimshaw delivering the win against the lower-division side.

Victory against Isthmian League Premier Division leaders Dorking Wanderers would secure a place in the first round and £5,000 prize money.

Killick admitted his spirits had been lifted when he first heard about the draw because he was unsure which league Wanderers played in.

However he soon discovered his side faced a difficult test to progress in the competition.

“For a minute, I had a sneaking feeling they might be in the same league as Brentwood and then I went on their website and looked at the league table," said Killick.

“Then I looked at their team pictures and saw they have the likes of Jason Prior, who was Havant & Waterlooville’s top scorer last season in winning Conference South.

“They are going to be a powerful outfit but I feel we are starting to play with more fluency so I think we can be confident.”
