BOSS Tom Killick praised the progress of his Poole Town side after they continued to recover from a modest start to the Southern League South season.

Dolphins secured an emphatic 4-0 victory at Walton Casuals on Saturday, taking an early lead through Richard Gillespie's penalty after Jake Scrimshaw had been fouled.

Gillespie squandered a second spot-kick but Walton goalkeeper Denzel Gerrar was sent off after saving the strike for comments made to the officials.

Poole took their time in making the man advantage count but late efforts from substitutes Adam Grange, Jez Bedford and Charlie Davis made sure of the win.

Assessing the performance, Killick told the Daily Echo: "It was frustrating because we got the second penalty and missed it.

"It took us a while to score the second goal but once we got it, there was never going to be any coming back from them."

Poole are seventh in the table, a point outside the play-offs with games in hand on all the teams above them.

"We are progressing and are starting to play with cohesion," said Killick. "We know there are some really good teams in the higher reaches of the league and you can't give them too much of head start.

"We need to start getting in and around the play-off positions so we can push on from there."

Dolphins: Cairney, Alawode-Williams, Leslie-Smith, Spetch, Whisken, Dickson (Davis, h-t), Griffin, Moore, Gillespie (Grange, 59), Brooks, Scrimshaw (Bedford, 78). Unused subs: Pettefer, House.
