LILLIPUT’S Louella O’Herlihy brought home silver and bronze medals from the ETU Duathlon European Championship and Middle Distance Triathlon European Championship in Ibiza.

Competing in the standard duathlon in the 45-49 age group, Louella clocked 41:14 for the 10k run which saw her slot into fifth place.

But, thanks to the fastest bike split in her age group, 56:49 over 40k, the Poole Athletic Club and Zoom Tri Bournemouth member moved up to first place.

Louella completed the closing 5k run in 21:40 but Team GB colleague Sharon Walker came past her to take the win by 40 seconds.

Her husband Simon enjoyed his best finish in Team GB colours by charging to sixth in the sprint duathlon, also in the 45-49 age group.

The Royal Marine finished two minutes, 20 seconds behind the winner having clocked 57:53.

Due to adverse weather conditions, the Middle Distance Triathlon was reduced to a 2k swim, 45k bike ride and 21k run.

Louella was 11th after the swim (38:03), sighting issues causing her to swim 200m to 300m more than required.

But rapid bike and run splits of 1:21:20 and 1:37:37 allowed her to finish third, just under a minute behind the champion.

Simon also enjoyed his best result in his age group, finishing 16th.
