WIMBORNE Town boss Matty Holmes saw off competition for Steve Flynn's signature before admitting the striker would give him an "extra option".

Flynn, dual registered with Poppies, could feature in the Southern League South clash with Staines Town at KoolPak Stadium on Saturday (3pm).

Holmes has had limited attacking bodies available in recent weeks and Flynn, who has 11 goals in as many starts this season, will bolster his resources.

"He is a good goalscorer and deserves an opportunity," said Holmes. "We are delighted to have him. Dorchester and a couple of other clubs had been very interested in him.

"We watched him three or four times over the past few months and he impressed us. He is a bit different to what we have in terms of a frontman so it gives us a nice extra option."

Skipper Billy Maybury could return from injury for the visit of lowly Staines, with Magpies aiming for a fourth home league win on the spin.

"Our home form is good but we have to treat teams at the top and bottom exactly the same," said Holmes.

"We must make this place solid and pick up as many points as possible."
