SCOTT Mitchell produced a treble-pounding performance to thrash Martin Schindler 5-1 and keep alive his hopes of progress at the Grand Slam of Darts.

The Bransgore thrower knew victory would be crucial having succumbed to a 5-2 defeat to number six seed Mensur Suljovic yesterday.

And although Mitchell surrendered throw in the first leg, three 140s helped him break straight back.

The 48-year-old went out in 14 darts in leg three and after missing the bull for a 161 next, he held his nerve to pin double four.

German youngster Schindler hit double five trouble in the fifth and Mitchell made his opponent pay, before more heavy scoring in leg six left him on 84, which he duly mopped up to end on a hefty average of 104.

The Dorset county star told Sky Sports: “I’ve been here a few times and I know you can’t get your head down when you lose to one of the seeds.

“Mensur was better than me and you just have to accept that.

“I have a couple of friends here and I always win when they come along. I need to start paying them more fuel money!”

Mitchell will play his final group game against Stephen Bunting tomorrow, the man who eliminated him from the Grand Slam last year.
