WIMBORNE Town boss Matty Holmes backed goalkeeper Gerard Benfield to again thrive in the pressure cooker atmosphere at Taunton Town.

Magpies on Saturday travel to Somerset hoping to pull further away from the Southern League South relegation zone, with Benfield’s form key if they are to take anything home from the trip.

Last season, Wimborne drew twice against Taunton in the league as both teams earned promotion. And Holmes is hoping for another positive result this time against a team riding high in the standings.

He told the Daily Echo: “We seem to like playing at Taunton – it’s a great atmosphere.

“Gerard gets a lot of stick from their fans behind the goal and he loves that.

“On a previous visit, they gave him real abuse and he looked a bit shaky and all of a sudden he produced some brilliant saves.

“You go to a football town and these are the games the lads want to play in.

“We’ve produced some great performances at Taunton in the past couple of years.

“They have strengthened again so it will be tough but we have to go there full of confidence and show we want to get a good result.”

Sam Davidson is available after completing a ban.
