VERWOOD Town surprised higher-division Hamworthy United to earn a spot in the Dorset Senior Cup quarter-finals.

A double from James Guthrie proved enough for a 2-1 win at the County Ground, with Nathan Walker getting the hosts’ consolation.

Verwood will travel to Bridport in the last eight.

Lymington needed penalties to get past Sway in the teams’ Bournemouth Senior Cup quarter-final.

Mike Gosney bagged a brace for the visitors but goals from Luke Churchill and ex-Lymo man Darren Ritchie ensured the tie finished 2-2.

Lymo prevailed 4-1 in the shootout and will visit Poppies in the semis.

Scott Joyce put Christchurch one up against Hythe & Dibden on the half hour mark but Dave Wyatt levelled with seven minutes left.

And Hythe kept their nerve to win 3-1 on penalties and set up a home tie against Hamworthy.

In Wessex Premier, Shiv Roushbaiani and new recruit River Smith were Poppies’ marksmen in a 4-2 loss at leaders Sholing.

Goals from Will Tickle and Mo Nyang gave Brockenhurst a 2-0 victory at Bemerton Heath Harlequins.

In the second round of the Southampton Senior Cup, Bashley eased to a 4-1 success against Colden Common reserves.

Hugh Dathan, Dan Munday, Jamie Webber and Brogan Sims were the Bash scorers.
