CENTRE Charlie Rowberry’s return inspired Swanage & Wareham to a 79-10 hammering of Puddletown.

Victory earned the Bestwall outfit their fourth win in five games and ensured they topped Dorset & Wilts One South.

A decisive move along the three-quarters saw winger Harry Spyers record a try in the corner for Swans after just six minutes.

The visitors hit back with a penalty to reduce to 5-3 the deficit but the contest soon became one-way traffic.

Rowberry, who was back from injury, was next on the scoreboard after 10 minutes when he touched down in the corner.

Winger Tom Haw then ran round to score under the posts. Phil Graves added the extras to make it 17-3.

Swans number eight Joe Desmond then forced his way over and two minutes later Rowberry crossed for his second score of the game.

After 26 minutes, Desmond went in for his second and Rowberry sealed his hat-trick ahead of the interval.

Five minutes before the break Swans were awarded a penalty try after the referee decided a kick ahead resulted in a tackle off the ball, meaning the hosts led 50-3.

After making a couple of changes, Swans continued to dominate. Five minutes after the restart Rowberry went in for his fourth try of the contest.

Barnaby Knibb sliced through the visitors’ defence to score out wide before Spyers was on hand to score his second of the afternoon.

Puddletown did hit back with a converted score to bring to double points their tally.

But further tries from Phil Graves and Knibb ensured the high-flying Swans recorded a commanding triumph.

Swans make the trip to Sherborne II on Saturday. The hosts have lost just once in the league this season.

Meanwhile, tries from Josh Rehel, Andy George and Martin Wright could not stop New Milton falling to a 43-20 home defeat to Fordingbridge.

Adam Lavis also struck a conversion and a penalty as Milton were left ninth in Hampshire Premier.
