BOSNIAN stopper Asmir Begovic believes continuity in selection has helped Cherries tighten up at the back.

Cherries have conceded just once in the Premier League since shipping four at Burnley a month ago.

In the three league games which followed the trip to Turf Moor, including Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Southampton, defenders Simon Francis, Nathan Ake, Steve Cook and Adam Smith have not missed a minute of action.

And Begovic believes that has been helpful in reducing opponents’ shots on goal.

He told the club website: “The boys in front of me have been absolutely magnificent, blocking so many shots and doing their jobs really well.

“Hopefully, Burnley was just a one-off. Continuity is important – the understanding is there.

“We have a really good relationship and fight for each other and that is a good recipe for success in the defensive unit.”

Reflecting on the draw against Saints, Begovic said: “It’s another point on the board and a clean sheet. We played a really good side. Every game against Southampton is closely fought.

“With a bit of luck, we could have had all three points but we’ll take the point and move on to next week.

“It keeps our run going and keeps momentum going in the right direction, so it was a positive result.”
